Types of mixed cargo transportation: features, role and prospects of development in Ukraine
Abstract
Purpose. The purpose of this research is to determine the impact of mixed transport on the efficiency of the transport system of Ukraine and making recommendations for their implementation.
Design/methodology/approach. The following research methods were used in the work: comparative, systemic, description.
Findings. Background of the research is driven by the transport system’s development necessity in connection with the current economic crisis and integration processes with the European Union. The subject of research is the issue of the implementation and development of multimodal transport in Ukraine. Mixed transportation is able to provide coordinated functioning of the international transport system to solve the economic problems of transit countries by increasing export of transport services. The article analyzes the essence of "multimodal transportation" concept. This research also represents the impact of the effect of mixed transportation on the efficiency of the transport system. The classification of the main types of the mixed transportation is characterized in the article. As a result, the advantages, disadvantages and peculiarities of the introduction of multimodal transportation in modern conditions were determined.
Research limitations/implications. The development of mixed transportation is the leading trend of modern transport systems worldwide. Determining the essence of mixed transportation, the formulation of the main differences between different types of it and making recommendations is the basis for further research to develop a strategy for the improvement of the transport system in Ukraine.
Originality/value. The development of mixed transportation in Ukraine on mutually beneficial and attractive conditions for all subjects of such transportation is one of the ways of improvement the transport industry
